The beneficiary of this year’s Lucie M. Walker Memorial Fund grant will be a middle school student in the Saugerties school district.
The donation will be made in support of a President’s Challenge Scholarship through the Ulster County Community College Foundation. The scholarship is designed to provide a first-generation, college-bound student identified in the eighth grade with a two-year college education at SUNY Ulster. The student will also receive counseling and mentoring through their high school education to better prepare them for their community college experience.
The Lucie M. Walker Memorial Fund was established in 2010 and is intended to provide a permanent source of financial assistance to local service organizations that enhance the quality of life or furnish support to people in need. Grants are distributed annually on Walker’s birthday.
